Yellow Dystopia is a rare superhot variety created by pepper breeder Wes Lane. While its exact genetic lineage is not well documented, the variety has developed a reputation among pepper growers for combining an unusual appearance with serious superhot-level heat.
The pods ripen to a bright yellow and have a distinctive wrinkled, somewhat gnarly appearance with a pointed tip. Despite their relatively small size, Yellow Dystopia peppers can pack an enormous amount of heat, with reports placing them at around 1,000,000+ Scoville Heat Units (SHU). The heat comes on strongly in the mouth before building toward the back of the throat and lingering for several minutes.
Flavor is surprisingly complex for such a hot pepper. The initial bite brings a noticeable sweetness, followed by fruity and citrus-like notes before the intense heat takes over.
