The Komodo Dragon pepper is currently one of the hottest peppers in the world as it averages about 1,500,000 Scoville Heat Units. At the time of its release in 2015, the Komodo Dragon was the hottest commercially grown pepper in the United Kingdom. The current hottest pepper in the world, according to Guinness World Records, is the Carolina Reaper.
The Komodo Dragon is also unusual because the heat does not kick in immediately and instead has a delayed reaction. At first there is a taste of wonderful hot fruitiness, but then after about 10 seconds the extreme heat of the Komodo Dragon kicks in. This is definitely a pepper for those who are experienced in eating super-hot food. There’s a lot more flavor to the Komodo Dragon pepper than most other superhot peppers. The Komodo Dragon pepper somewhat resembles a combination of a 7 Pot and a Ghost pepper. It starts off green and ripens to red.
