The world famous Chocolate Bhutlah pepper is said to be one of the hottest peppers in the world. Some have said that the Chocolate Bhutlah pepper could replace the Carolina Reaper as the hottest pepper in the world, but no official testing has been conducted. It has a slightly sweet flavor with an intense heat level. Its cousin, the Chocolate Ghost (Bhut Jolokia) pepper, has a similar flavor but is not as spicy.
Like other chocolate varieties, the Chocolate Bhutlah also has a slightly smoky flavor. The Chocolate Bhutlah should be used sparingly as just a small piece of this pepper can provide enough heat for an entire dish. Originally, the Chocolate Bhutlah was created by accident by Chad, a pepper grower, who gave seeds for the Red Bhutlah to Steven McLaurin. One of the plants that McLaurin grew produced brown pods, and the Chocolate Bhutlah was born.
